Penicillin G – 10 μg Antibiotic Disc – Bioanalyse is a paper disc impregnated with 10 micrograms of penicillin G, a narrow-spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic. It is used in the disc diffusion method of antimicrobial susceptibility testing to determine the susceptibility of bacteria to penicillin G.

Penicillin G is effective against a variety of Gram-positive bacteria, including:

• Streptococcus pneumoniae
• Streptococcus pyogenes
• Streptococcus viridans
• Staphylococcus aureus
• Staphylococcus epidermidis

Penicillin G is also effective against some Gram-negative bacteria, such as Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Neisseria meningitidis.

• The disc diffusion method can be affected by the type of agar plate used, the incubation temperature, and the inoculum density. Therefore, it is important to follow standardized procedures when performing the disc diffusion test.
